At last....the third term has arrived!!!

This is our last term this academic year, so we have to keep on working hard.
Some things you have to remember:

1. If you failed English last year, you have to give your teacher back the reinforcement activities. Don't forget it!

2. If you are reading any graded book make sure that you have answered all the questions and hand them out to your teacher.

3. Do all your homework and study everyday.

4. Ask your teacher any doubt.

Andalusian Day

The "Día de Andalucía" celebration is coming, so we have prepared some interesting facts about our region related to our subject. This year we have learnt how some British workers lived in Huelva mines, why Gibraltar is not Spanish, the twinning of Cordoba and Manchester, famous singers and actors who spent months in Almeria and British writers who fell in love with Granada, Malaga and Jaen. You have to pay attention to your classmates who are going to explain everything. And, of course, this will help you to answer the questions of The Big Andalusian Day Quiz!!!

PHRASES AND IDIOMS

We have to be very careful when translating set phrases or idioms, as they mustn't be translated word by word, otherwise they'll lose their real meaning. What do we have to know about English idioms?
First of all, that they usually follow one of these structures:

VERB+OBJECT/COMPLEMENT: pull someone's leg   tomar el pelo
PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE: in the doghouse  castigado
NOUN PHRASE: a piece of cake  pan comido
AS+ADJECTIVE+ AS: as blind as a bat  ciego como un topo
LIKE + NOUN:  like a fish out of water  como pez fuera del agua
WORD +AND + WORD: safe and sound  sano y salvo
SENTENCE: to cut a long story short  en resumen

You have to be able to learn as many idioms as possible. It's a way of sounding like a native English speaker and it will be very useful to improve both your memory and your vocabulary. Try and find some more!
